Trent Richardson dealt to Colts
WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (back/shoulder/ribs) fully practiced on Wednesday. He is expected to start Sunday in San Francisco. –Pagano doesn’t expect CB Vontae Davis to get too amped up to face older brother, 49ers TE Vernon Davis, on Sunday. “Just focus on what he has to get done,” the Colts coach said. “He needs to focus on being the best right corner in the National Football League on Sunday. That’s what he needs to focus on and he’ll do that.” TE Coby Fleener, the team’s second-round draft pick last season, takes on a bigger role in the Colts offense for the remainder of the season with Dwayne Allen lost for the year. “We got all the confidence in the world that he’ll play at a high level for us. A winning level,” said Colts coach Chuck Pagano. ILB Kavell Conner (ankle) fully practiced Wednesday and may be cleared to play against the 49ers on Sunday.
Sunday marks the first meeting between Indianapolis and San Francisco since 2009.TV: 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS. LINE: 49ers -10. O/U: 46ABOUT THE COLTS (1-1): The move to snag Richardson solidifies Indianapolis’ commitment to the power-run game – a tactic first broached when the Colts acquired Ahmad Bradshaw in the offseason. Now, with a player head coach Chuck Pagano describes as a “rolling ball of butcher knives,” Indianapolis believes it is poised to make a run at the AFC championship – and Richardson is a believer. “Playing against these guys twice, just seeing how they are around each other when they’re on the sideline, it’s been a big change,” Richardson told reporters. “They’re happy to come to work, and they’re ready to go.”ABOUT THE 49ERS (1-1): Teams are daring 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to beat them through the air – and while that strategy backfired on Green Bay in Kaepernick’s Week 1 explosion against the Green Bay Packers (412 passing yards, three TDs), the Seahawks proved to be far better at it. Running back Frank Gore has struggled the most, compiling just 60 yards on 30 carries against the Packers and Seahawks. “We’ve got to get better in the run game,” Gore told the continue reading this.. Da’Rick Rogers gets big opportunity with Indianapolis Colts
So, I understand the skepticism for now. We have to do what we think is right, move the franchise forward and get it to where we want it to be.” Chudzinski isn’t worried about any negative backlash from the players. “That’s football,” said Chudzinski, adding he reached out to the team’s captains. “You deal with those things whether they are injuries or a trade. I believe in this group and I believe the next guy will step up and we will find a way and do what we need to do to win.” Like Richardson, Weeden’s days could be numbered with the Browns, who have started 19 quarterbacks since 1999 and are still looking for the right one. Next year’s draft class includes several top-flight quarterbacks and the Browns could be loading up on high picks to make sure they get a good one. Banner, though, said the Browns aren’t angling toward any particular position or player.
Colts Andrew Luck returns to Bay Area to face former Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, 49ers
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh played quarterback for the Colts from 1994-97 and is in the team’s Ring of Honor at Lucas Oil Stadium. He also was the head coach at Stanford who recruited current Indianapolis players Andrew Luck, Delano Howell and Fleener. Luck, Howell, Fleener and wide receiver Griff Whalen (who had been a walk-on) all played for Harbaugh in college. San Francisco defensive coordinator Vic Fangio served in the same capacity with the Colts (1999-01) and at Stanford. Indianapolis cornerback Vontae Davis is the younger brother of 49ers tight end Vernon Davis. Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton served on Jim Harbaughs coaching staff at Stanford. He served as wide receivers coach on Harbaughs Stanford 2010 team. Hamilton also served as an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach in San Francisco during the 2006 season.
Indianapolis Colts – Mel Kiper Loves the Richardson Trade – for the Cleveland Browns
They are in a tough spot if one more offensive player goes down. That goes for anyone not just the starters. Ranking the importance of the losses on a 1-10 scale is not difficult, but has less to do with the overall talent of the lost player than the gap between the injured and the healthy. Dwayne Allen(7.5) Coby Fleener and Dominique Jones are able to block and catch, but if either goes down, that would leave Cathedral High School product Jack Doyle and practice squad member Justice Cunningham to man that post. We havent seen enough of Jones to know exactly how good he is, but in camp he appeared solid. The Patriots have lost Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, and are 2-0 with Michael Hoomanawanui, Matt Mulligan, and Zach Sudfeld. Allen is a unique athlete and personality whose assets cannot be easily replaced. Colts’ new running back greeted by hoots, hollers
Unfortunately, his mental shortcomings have kept him from taking advantage of his immense potential. After struggling to grasp the playbook and landing in head coach Doug Marrones doghouse following a show of immaturity, Rogers was waived by the Bills at final cuts . Rogers went unclaimed off of waivers, but eventually signed to the Colts practice squad as a developmental talent. With his recent promotion, though, hes getting a chance to make an impact much sooner than originally expected. Rogers promotion is a result of the fallout of Dwayne Allens season-ending hip injury. Without a capable replacement at tight end, the Colts will be forced to go with more three-wide sets. That means more Reggie Wayne, T.Y Hilton and Darrius Heyward-Bey on the field at one time.
Everyone glad Richardson in Indianapolis
“It’s not really something they did, it’s what we didn’t do.” How he bounces back will be a key factor considering he had very little failure in a breakthrough 2012 and impressive postseason run. “He probably played the best; most productive person we had on offense,” Harbaugh said. “He did what he could.” TALE OF TWO HALVES: Indianapolis amassed 315 yards in the first half and 133 over the final two quarters in a 24-20 home loss to Miami, Luck’s first defeat on his home field. The Colts led 17-14 at halftime after falling behind 14-3. Coach Chuck Pagano is striving for improved consistency in all phases. “We’ve got to play better,” Pagano said. “We’ve got to play 60 minutes of consistent football on both sides of the ball and on special teams. We’ll continue to look for ways to make sure that we can do that.” THE GORE FACTOR: Frank Gore wants to get on track, and now.

Indianapolis Colts – Injuries to Dwayne Allen, Vick Ballard, and Donald Thomas All Survivable
We feel very excited to have Trent in the fold.” How excited? Pagano thought Grigson was joking when he initially broached the possibility of adding Richardson to the team. “Any time you have an opportunity and a name like that pops up, No. 3 overall pick in the same draft as (quarterback) Andrew (Luck). Right behind Andrew, RG (Robert Griffin III) and Trent (Richardson), obviously your ears perk up,” the Colts coach admitted Thursday. “There’s a certain amount of excitement level. You’re kind of like, ‘Are you being serious? Are you messing with me on this deal?’ ” The Colts’ general manager certainly didn’t flinch when the chance to make the deal presented itself. The wheels started turning on a possible trade early this week.
Preview: Colts at 49ers
The Colts passing offense is good enough that no one is going to throw eight in the box to stop Richardson. Vick Ballard, the 11th back taken in the 2012 NFL Draft, rushed for 3.9 yards per carry last season for the Colts, so Richardson should be good for a minimum of 4.0 as the 3rd overall pick in the same draft. Richardson has been playing against the Bengals, Steelers, and Ravens twice each as a member of a team in the AFC North. With the Colts, hell find the AFC South defenses of the Jaguars and Titans a little more to his liking. The Texans might be an AFC North-esque challenge. The Colts found a piece they needed to remain competitive in a place where he didnt fit. This was similar to the trade with the Miami Dolphins last year that swapped a second rounder for cornerback Vontae Davis.
